People book moving help for others regularly: a parent arranging a student's move, somebody helping a friend after an illness, a family paying for a relative's move from another state, or neighbours clubbing together for somebody who needs it.

Be clear who gives instructions
The main thing. Whoever is paying is not necessarily who the crew should be taking direction from on the day.
Name one person as the point of contact, and make sure that person will actually be present or reachable. Where the person moving is there and able to make decisions, they should be making them, and we will not disregard them in favour of whoever booked.
Where several family members are involved, agree between yourselves beforehand. We will follow one set of instructions and will not adjudicate between relatives, and we will say so plainly if asked to.
Sort payment in advance
Simpler than it sounds and it prevents an awkward moment.
Arrange payment with the office beforehand rather than having somebody hand over a card on the day, particularly if the person moving does not know the cost or would be uncomfortable with it.
Get a receipt in the name of whoever is paying.
Give us accurate information
The commonest problem when booking on somebody else's behalf: the person arranging has not seen the property.
Estimates built on a description of a house nobody has looked at get corrected on the day. If you cannot visit, ask for photographs of every room including the garage, the route out, and the stairs.
A short video walkthrough by the person moving is the easiest way and takes ten minutes.
Think about what they actually need
Sometimes the useful gift is not the whole move.
Two hours of crew time for the heavy items, with the boxes done by family, may be more use than a full booking. So may a hauling visit for what is being disposed of, which is frequently the part somebody cannot manage alone.
Ask them rather than deciding for them.
On the day
Somebody should be present who can answer questions. Keep documents, medication and valuables with the person rather than on the truck.
