What Two Hours of Help Can Actually Achieve

Short bookings are the cheapest way to get help and they only work if the expectation matches the time. Here is what two people can genuinely get through in two hours, assuming you are ready.

What two hours comfortably covers

The furniture and appliances from a one-bedroom apartment, ground floor, loaded into a truck at the door.

Or unloading a small truck into a house with good access.

Or moving the heavy items within a house: beds, wardrobes, a sofa, a washer, for flooring or painting.

Or collecting one or two large items and delivering them across town.

Or loading a small storage unit properly, with an aisle left.

What two hours does not cover

A whole two-bedroom household, boxes included.

Anything with a flight of stairs and volume together. Stairs are the largest single factor and they change the arithmetic completely.

A job where the packing is not finished, because the clock runs while you tape boxes.

Anything with a long carry from the door to where a vehicle can park.

A piano, a safe or a hot tub, which are their own bookings.

The things that quietly consume the time

Not being ready. The biggest by a distance. On a two-hour booking, twenty minutes of waiting is a sixth of what you paid for.

Deciding as you go. Working out what goes and what stays while somebody holds it is slow. Decide beforehand and mark things clearly.

Distance from door to vehicle. Frequently underestimated, and it multiplies across every trip.

Disassembly on the day that could have been done the night before.

How to get the most from a short booking

Everything sealed, labelled and staged by the door. Routes clear and doors propped. Parking sorted, as close as possible. Beds dismantled if you are able. Somebody available to answer questions rather than everybody carrying.

And if the furniture finishes early, use the remaining time rather than sending the crew away. Boxes, repositioning, or a run to storage all use time you have already paid for.

Book slightly long

Finishing early costs nothing on an hourly booking. Running out of time means rushing the hardest part.
