Moving a Spa a Few Miles

A good share of spa moves here are short: Washington to St. George, across town, or from one property to another a few miles away.

People expect that to be inexpensive because the distance is small, and it is worth explaining what actually drives the price.

What you are paying for

Not mileage. A spa move is a sequence, and the drive is the shortest part of it.

Getting the tub out of a back garden, which frequently means removing fence panels. Manoeuvring it on its side on dollies across ground that was not designed for a concentrated load. Lifting it into and out of a vehicle. Then the same in reverse at the other end, onto a prepared pad, positioned and levelled.

That sequence is identical whether the destination is two miles away or forty.

Where a short move genuinely is cheaper

It fits in one day comfortably, with no overnight and no scheduling around a long drive.

It also means a return visit is practical if something is not ready, which on a longer job it is not.

And where both ends are close, one crew and one trip covers it rather than two mobilisations.

How to actually reduce it

Sort the access before we quote. If you can widen a gate, remove a fence panel yourself, or clear a route, that is work you are otherwise paying a crew to do.

Have the drain done properly and early. A spa emptied the morning of the move has not finished draining, and residual water is weight and mess. Do it two days ahead, including the pump unions and the lines.

Have the pad ready and the electrician booked. A tub delivered to an unprepared base gets set down twice, or worse, sits in a driveway.

Do it in cooler months if you can. Spa work in a Washington July afternoon is slow going, and hours cost money.

The question worth asking first

Whether to move it at all. For an older tub, or one with a failing heater or a cracked shell, the move can approach what a replacement costs, and a spa that has sat unused for two years is worth being honest about.
