The cover
The item most often damaged in a spa move, and an expensive one to replace.
It travels separately, flat, with nothing stacked on it. Not folded hard along the hinge, which is the weak point and where the vapour barrier splits.
Do not use it as a work surface during the move, which is exactly what happens if nobody says otherwise.
A waterlogged cover is heavy and near the end of its life anyway. If you are moving one that is already saturated, it is worth deciding now rather than transporting it and replacing it in three months.
The cover lifter
Comes off the tub and travels separately. Photograph how it was mounted before removing it, and bag the fittings taped to the frame.
Mounting positions vary by cabinet and by lifter, and reassembling from memory takes considerably longer than looking at a photograph.
Steps, surround and railings
Steps are frequently timber and frequently heavier and more fragile than they look. Handrails unbolt.
If the spa sat in decking or a surround, decide what is coming. Purpose-built surrounds rarely suit a different position and are often better left.
The equipment and small parts
The things that vanish: filters, filter lids, jet inserts, headrests, the drain cap, the equipment bay screws, the manual and the remote or topside control if it detaches.
Put all of it in one labelled box that travels with you rather than loose in the cabinet, where it moves around and gets lost or damages the plumbing.
Headrests especially. They degrade in sun and are surprisingly expensive to replace.
Chemicals
Do not go on the truck. Spa chemicals are oxidisers and are treated as hazardous, so they travel in your own vehicle or, better, get used up and replaced.
Check dates while you are at it, since sanitiser degrades.
Make a list before the day
Walk round the spa and write down everything that is not the tub itself. It takes five minutes and it is the difference between a complete installation and three trips back.
