About This Service

Businesses plan the move in detail and the following week not at all, which is backwards, because the move is a few hours of other people's work and the week after is your entire team trying to operate somewhere unfamiliar.

Just-In-Time Moving handles commercial relocations across Salt Lake City and Salt Lake County.

Plan the first morning deliberately

Reduce the diary. Whatever your business does, do less of it on day one. Something always needs sorting out, and having slack is the difference between fixing it and running late all day.

Send one message before people arrive. Where to park, which entrance, how to get in, where they sit, where their crate is, whether the network is up, where the kitchen and bathrooms are. Every one of those will otherwise be asked individually.

Have somebody unassigned. One person whose job that morning is answering questions and fixing small problems rather than their normal work. It pays for itself before lunch.

What predictably breaks

Connectivity, in some corner. A meeting room point that was never tested, a printer nobody thought about, a device with a hard-coded address.

Access. Fobs that do not work, an alarm nobody can disarm, a door that needs a code somebody has.

Deliveries going to the old address. Suppliers, couriers and anything on a subscription. Worth a list made in advance.

Post. Which is nobody's job until something important does not arrive.

Missing personal items, usually belonging to whoever was away that week.

Do a punch list at the end of week one

Walk the space with whoever ran the move and write down everything unresolved: furniture in the wrong place, damage to note, things that never arrived, anything not working.

Do it while it is fresh. Damage to raise with a moving company is much easier in the first days, and problems with the building itself are easier while the landlord's attention is still on your fit-out.

If anything needs raising with us, raise it then rather than a month later.

What we do beforehand to help

Label by destination, place furniture rather than stacking it, keep each person's equipment together as a set, and leave the space in a state where people can sit down and work.

Commercial Movers — FAQ

What should we do on the first morning back?

Reduce the diary, send one message beforehand covering parking, entry, seating, crates and whether the network is up, and have one person unassigned whose job is answering questions. That person pays for themselves before lunch.

What usually breaks in the first week?

Connectivity in some corner that was never tested, access fobs and alarm codes, deliveries still going to the old address, post, and personal items belonging to whoever was away that week.

When should we raise problems with the mover?

In the first days, while it is fresh, as part of a walk-round punch list at the end of week one. Damage and missing items are far easier to resolve then than a month later, for everybody involved.
