Preparing for a Junk Removal Visit in Salt Lake City

Junk removal is priced on what it takes to get the load out, which means preparation converts almost directly into a smaller bill. Here is what actually helps, in order.

The day before

Separate what is staying, into a different room. Not to one side, not against a wall. A different room, with the door shut if possible. This is the highest-value thing on the list because it removes the only genuinely bad outcome.

Break down what breaks down. Flatten cardboard. Take apart flat-pack furniture that is going anyway. Bulky and empty is the most expensive thing per unit of value to transport.

Consolidate, safely. Loose items into boxes or bags so they move in armfuls rather than handfuls. Do not attempt anything heavy yourself; that is what the crew is for.

Clear the route. From the load to the door, and from the door to where the truck will sit. Move vehicles. In winter, clear and salt.

Set aside the hazardous. Paint, solvents, chemicals, fuel, and anything you are unsure about. Ask us rather than assuming, because these need a different route and finding out on the day means a second arrangement anyway.

Walk the whole property first

Before booking, not on the day. Garage, basement, shed, behind the shed, the side return, any storage closet, the crawl space if it is used.

Those are where forgotten items live, and a second visit costs considerably more than including them the first time.

What to send when you book

Photographs of the load, the route out, and where a truck can park. Not just the pile, because access affects the figure more than volume does.

A description of what the material actually is. Dense material like tile, concrete, cast iron and exercise equipment weighs far more than it looks.

On the day

Be there or have somebody who can answer questions. Do the walk-round with the crew before loading starts and confirm what is going.

Then let them work. You are not expected to carry anything, and it is genuinely safer if you do not.

One last thing that saves a return visit. As the load goes out, the space it was occupying becomes visible for the first time in years, and that is usually when people notice what was behind it. If more turns up mid-job, say so straight away rather than at the end. Adding to a load while a truck is still filling is straightforward; discovering another pile after it has left means a second visit at a second price.
