Safe moves are among the most predictable jobs there are, provided the preparation is done. Here is the list, with the reason for each.

Before the day

Empty it completely. Removes real weight, stops contents shifting inside a top-heavy object, and means the contents are never in anybody else's custody. This is the one that matters most.

Find the weight. The make and model if you cannot find a figure, because manufacturer weights vary widely between safes that look alike. It decides the crew and the equipment, and a guess is not a basis for either.

Measure the narrowest point of the whole route. Not the front door. The tightest thing anywhere on the journey, which is often an interior doorway or the width at a stair landing.

Photograph everything. Where it stands, the full route out, the approach to where a truck can park, and the destination. Four photographs answer more than a page of description, and they record the condition of your floors before anybody starts.

Say if it is anchored, at either end. Removing bolts is straightforward with the right tools on the truck and a genuine problem without them.

Decide the destination position, exactly. A safe is placed once, and moving it again later is a second job at full price.

On the morning

Clear the route, both ends, including moving vehicles from the driveway.

In winter, clear and salt the outside approach properly. A safe on a slope with ice on it is not a manageable risk, and the route being clear is what decides whether the day happens.

Tell us what the flooring is along the route, particularly if there is tile, so protection goes down before anything moves.

Questions worth asking us

How many people are coming, what equipment for your weight, and whether we think the route works. That last one is the useful question, and an honest answer beforehand is worth more than anything else.

Also worth asking: what happens at the far end. If the safe is being anchored, that needs the right tools on the truck and a decision about exactly where it sits, made before rather than while four people wait. If it is going upstairs or over a finished basement, the floor loading question should be settled with somebody qualified before the day rather than raised on it. Neither of those is complicated in advance and both are genuinely awkward to resolve with a safe already in the hallway.
