The jobs that do not fit a form

Moving furniture within a house. No truck, no address change. For new flooring, for painting, or because a heavy piece is in the wrong room and has been for years.

Getting something into an attic or out of a basement, where the issue is the route rather than the distance.

A collection from a private seller, where somebody bought something online and the listing says buyer collects.

Rearranging a room that contains one object nobody in the house can move safely.

Taking something apart that has to leave a room and will not go whole.

Half a job, where somebody started and got stuck. The truck is half loaded and the remaining item is the piano.

A single item to a family member across town, which is too small for most bookings and too big for a car.

Why these are hard to book elsewhere

Not unwillingness so much as structure. An operation scheduling crews in day and half-day blocks cannot easily fit an hour of work, and a booking system built around addresses struggles with a job that has one address.

A smaller operation can simply decide. The person taking the call is connected to the crew, so an odd-shaped job gets slotted around a larger one rather than declined.

What we need to know

What the item is, where it is now and where it is going, even if that is a room rather than an address.

Photographs of the item and the route, including any staircase and its turn.

Whether it was assembled in the room, and whether it is old or valuable.

Scheduling runs seven days a week including evenings, which is often what makes a short job workable.

The one thing that helps most when you call is describing the job as it actually is rather than trying to translate it into something that sounds like a normal booking. People frequently open by apologising for it being small or strange. It is neither, and an accurate description of an unusual job produces a straightforward answer, whereas a description shaped to fit a standard category produces a quote for the wrong thing.
