The jobs this usually is
A few pieces between addresses. Moving a room's worth of furniture rather than a household. Common when someone is moving in with someone, furnishing a first apartment, or passing furniture on within a family.
A single heavy item. A sleeper sofa, a solid wood armoire, a treadmill, a mattress and box spring up a narrow staircase. The weight is usually manageable. The shape and the staircase are what defeat people.
Collection from a seller. Secondhand furniture bought locally where the seller has been clear that it is collection only. Worth arranging properly, because these are the jobs where people borrow a truck they cannot drive well and injure themselves on a stairway.
Moving furniture within a home. For new flooring, for painting, or just because a piano-sized object is in the wrong room. No truck involved at all.
What to tell us when you call
What the item is, roughly how big, and what the route looks like at both ends. Stairs and how many. Whether there is a turn at the bottom of them, which is what actually stops furniture more often than the stairs. Doorway widths if anything looks marginal. Whether a truck can get close.
Photographs help more than measurements for anything awkwardly shaped. A photograph of the staircase is worth several sentences about it.
Two things worth knowing. First, if it was difficult to get in, it will be at least as difficult to get out, and if it was assembled inside the room it may genuinely not come out whole. Say so and we will plan for disassembly rather than discover it. Second, sleeper sofas are heavier than they look, by a wide margin, because of the steel frame folded inside them.
