Why it is worth paying for
The crew that packs it is the crew that carries it
That is the whole argument, and it is not a small one. When we pack a box we already know it is going to be lifted, stacked four high in a truck, driven over the Black Ridge and carried up a staircase. So it gets packed for that, and it gets packed to a weight a person can actually carry — books in small cartons, linen in large ones, not the other way around.
Nearly all breakage we are ever called about traces back to three things: a half-empty box that collapsed under the one above it, plates packed flat instead of on edge, and a carton too heavy to handle properly on stairs. All three are packing decisions, made days before the truck arrives.
It is also the single biggest thing you can hand over. Packing is where the hours go in a house move, and it is the part people most reliably underestimate.

The other end is worth thinking about before you get there. Living out of forty boxes for a fortnight is miserable, and a house full of flattened cartons is its own problem — especially in a rental with a small bin.

Packing questions
How long does packing a house take?
A crew packing a three-bedroom typically works through it in a day; four and five bedrooms with full garages usually run to two. It is much faster than doing it yourself, mostly because nobody stops to reminisce over a photo album.
Can I pack some of it myself?
Yes, and most people do. The common split is that you do the wardrobes, the books and the garage, and we do the kitchen, the glass and the artwork — the rooms where a mistake actually costs something. That is partial packing.
Do you sell boxes on their own?
Yes. Boxes and supplies are available whether or not we are doing the packing. Ask for a rough count when you get your estimate — people almost always underestimate, and running out mid-kitchen is how things end up in bin bags.
What will you not pack?
Anything flammable, corrosive or explosive — propane, petrol, solvents, aerosols and similar cannot travel on a moving truck. Nor will we take responsibility for cash, jewellery, passports or medication; keep those with you personally.
Should I pack the kitchen last?
Pack all of it except one box of essentials, and label that box so it comes off the truck first. The single most common regret we hear is packing the kettle, the mugs and the phone chargers into the middle of the load.
