Patios matter in St. George. A lot of living happens outside for much of the year, and outdoor furniture here is often a substantial investment rather than a few plastic chairs.

Clean it first, and mean it

The step people skip and then regret. Outdoor furniture carries dust, grit, pollen, spider webs and often bird mess, and all of it transfers to everything else on the truck.

Wash it down and let it dry completely several days before the move. Anything cushioned needs genuinely dry, since damp foam in a closed box or a truck develops mould quickly.

Grit is the specific problem here. Fine dust gets into cushion seams and under furniture feet, and it acts as an abrasive against whatever it is loaded next to.

Check the condition honestly

Sun does real damage in this climate, and it is worth knowing what you actually have before paying to move it.

Resin and plastic become brittle after a few years of full sun, and a chair that looks fine can crack when lifted by the arm. Cushion fabric fades and the foam degrades. Powder coating chips and the steel beneath rusts, particularly near a pool. Wood dries and checks.

Tell us if anything is fragile. A crew handling a brittle chair as though it were sound is how it breaks, and it is easily avoided by mentioning it.

How it should be packed

Stack chairs where they are designed to stack, and not where they are not.

Glass table tops come off and travel like any other glass: wrapped, on edge, upright, marked, never flat. Patio table glass is heavy and is one of the most commonly broken items in a move.

Umbrellas closed, secured and ideally with the base separate, since the base is extremely heavy and belongs on the floor of the truck.

Cushions bagged separately and kept dry.

Fire pits, grills and heaters

Propane tanks do not travel, in any weather. Disconnect them and take them to an exchange point.

Grills should be cleaned and the grease trap emptied, because a loaded truck in summer heat with grease in it is genuinely unpleasant.

Worth asking

Whether it suits the new place at all. Outdoor furniture is bulky, and a set scaled to a large patio rarely works on a small balcony.
