About This Service

Manufacturing is a real part of the economy around Cedar City, and small workshops and fabrication businesses relocate as they grow. It is one of the more demanding commercial moves, and the cost is driven by a few decisions made early.

Just-In-Time Moving works throughout Cedar City and Iron County.

Know where the line is between movers and riggers

The most important thing on this page, because getting it wrong is expensive and dangerous.

A moving crew handles benches, shelving, tooling, stock, hand tools, cabinets and portable equipment. That is genuine work and it is most of the volume.

Machinery that is bolted down, requires levelling, needs skates or a gantry to move, or is heavy enough to need engineered lifting is rigging work. That is a specialist trade with different equipment and different insurance, and a moving crew should not attempt it.

Where a job has both, the sensible arrangement is riggers for the machines and a moving crew for everything else. Booking them separately is usually cheaper than asking one to cover the other.

What reduces the cost

Deal with stock and offcuts first. Raw material, offcuts and obsolete stock are heavy and frequently make up a surprising share of the load. Sell, use or scrap before the move rather than transporting it.

Metal has real scrap value and should be separated rather than hauled as mixed waste.

Decide about old equipment. A machine you have not run in two years is unlikely to earn its move. Selling or scrapping it before is cheaper than moving it and dealing with it later.

Empty everything. Cabinets, benches and toolboxes travel far better empty, and a loaded toolbox is frequently too heavy to move at all.

Move in your quiet period if the business has one.

The things that must be handled separately

Fuel, propane, solvents, paints, oils, coolants, compressed gas cylinders and any chemical do not travel on a moving truck. Arrange disposal or specialist transport, and drain fuel from anything powered.

Compressors need depressurising and draining.

At the new premises

Confirm the floor, the power supply and any three-phase requirement before moving anything, since those decide where machines can go. Confirm the electrician and any rigging is scheduled before the move rather than after.

Tell us what is machinery and what is not, and we will be straight about which parts we should be doing.

Commercial Movers — FAQ

Can movers handle machinery?

Benches, shelving, tooling, stock and portable equipment, yes. Machines that are bolted down, need levelling, require skates or a gantry, or need engineered lifting are rigging work, which is a separate trade with different equipment and insurance.

How do I reduce the cost?

Deal with raw material, offcuts and obsolete stock first, since they are heavy and a surprising share of the load, and separate metal for scrap value. Decide against old equipment you have not run, and empty every cabinet and toolbox.

What cannot go on the truck?

Fuel, propane, solvents, paints, oils, coolants, compressed gas cylinders and any chemical. Drain fuel from anything powered and depressurise and drain compressors before the move.
