The delivery window in writing, plus the first available delivery date and how much notice you get before the truck arrives.
Which valuation level applies. The basic level is settled by weight rather than value, which for electronics and valuables is a fraction of replacement. Ask what full value protection costs.
Carrier or broker. Ask whether the company you hire will do the work or pass it to a partner, and get the answer in writing.
For interstate moves, check the USDOT number with the federal regulator. It shows operating authority and complaint history and takes a minute.
Pack a two-week box
Bedding, towels, a basic kitchen, tools, chargers, medication, documents and clothing, travelling with you rather than on the truck. Assume the later end of any delivery window and you will not be caught out.
Summer matters on the way out
Heat-sensitive items should not spend days in a trailer: candles, records, electronics, batteries, artwork, instruments, medication and cosmetics. Those go in your own vehicle.
Load early in the day where possible, and do not leave a loaded truck standing in the sun.

Do not give up the old place too early
Where you have any choice, keep an overlap between the two properties. It is cheaper than a hotel and considerably cheaper than storage plus a hotel, and it absorbs the delivery window rather than leaving you waiting in an empty house.
If the dates genuinely cannot be made to line up, ask about storage in transit and what it costs, including any handling charges for putting goods in and taking them out, which are separate from the storage itself and are the part people miss.
