Packing a Garage and Workshop
The room everybody leaves until last, and the one that most often derails a moving day.
The garage is where moves go wrong. It is left until the end, it contains more than anybody remembers, much of it is heavy, some of it cannot legally go on a truck, and by the time anybody looks properly it is the evening before.
Just-In-Time Moving is locally owned and packs across St. George and Washington County.
Start here, not last
Reverse the usual order. The garage should be the first room you deal with, weeks ahead, because it is the one containing things you will not miss and decisions you can make calmly.
It is also where the largest savings are. Garage contents are heavy, which on any move and especially a long one is what you pay for.
What cannot go on the truck at all
Deal with this early, because discovering it on the day is the expensive way.
Petrol, propane tanks, motor oil, antifreeze, solvents, thinners, pesticides, pool chemicals, aerosols in quantity, and car batteries. None of it travels.
Drain fuel from mowers, strimmers, generators and pressure washers before they are moved. Washington County has household hazardous waste collection for chemicals, and most shops take back oil and batteries free.
Propane cylinders go to an exchange point rather than on a truck, in any weather.
Tools
Hand tools in small boxes, because a box of tools gets heavy immediately. Toolboxes and chests are frequently too heavy to move loaded; empty the drawers.
Power tools in their cases if you have them, with batteries removed and carried separately. Lithium batteries do not belong in a hot truck.
Anything with a blade or a point should be wrapped, taped and marked. Somebody is going to open that box.

Yard and sports equipment
Clean soil off tools and pots before they go anywhere. Dismantle what comes apart. Coil hoses and drain them, particularly in freezing weather.
Bicycles, kayaks and exercise equipment are awkward rather than fragile; tell us what you have so the truck is loaded to suit.
Shelving and the fitted things
Say early whether wall shelving, overhead racks and workbenches are coming, since dismantling them takes time and they frequently do not suit the next garage anyway.
Be honest in the estimate
Show us the garage. It is the single most common omission in a quote, it is regularly a third of the load, and a mover who has not seen it has not quoted your move.
