St. George has a lot of people staying for a season rather than settling: winter residents, travelling healthcare staff, people building a house, and those trying the area before committing.

Furnished is almost always cheaper

Run the numbers before assuming otherwise. For a stay of a few months, the premium on a furnished rental is frequently less than the cost of transporting furniture here and back, plus storing whatever you left behind.

Ask specifically what furnished means, since it varies enormously. Beds and a sofa, or genuinely everything down to the kitchen equipment and linen? Get a list rather than a word.

Bring what a house does not provide

Even a well-furnished rental leaves gaps, and they are consistent: your own pillow and bedding if you are particular, decent kitchen knives, a proper coffee arrangement, and whatever makes a room yours.

Plus the practical list: tools, an extension lead, a torch, and cleaning things.

Everything else is available a short drive away. Transporting kitchenware across several states for a four-month stay is a poor trade.

Storing what stays behind

The real cost of a seasonal arrangement is frequently at the other end rather than this one.

Work out what a unit costs for the whole period before deciding. Over a long stay, storage can exceed the value of what is in it, and that is the moment to reduce rather than to rent bigger.

Watch for the extras

Short-term rentals often carry costs that annual leases do not. Ask what is included: utilities, internet, and whether there are cleaning or administration fees at either end.

Ask about the move-in rules too. Many complexes here require booking, restrict hours, and want a certificate of insurance from any mover, and short-term tenants are frequently told last.

Document it, briefly but properly

Photograph the place on arrival: rooms, floors, furniture, appliances, existing marks. In a furnished short-term rental you are responsible for contents you did not choose, and turnover inspections are quick and unforgiving.
