The move between southern and northern Utah is one of the most common long journeys we are asked about, and it sits awkwardly between the two categories most advice is written for.
It is too far for an ordinary hourly local job, and it is inside one state, so it is not governed by the interstate rules people have read about.
Just-In-Time Moving works throughout St. George and Washington County.
What actually drives the cost
Weight and volume above all. On a long haul, every pound is carried three hundred miles. This is why reducing what you move matters far more here than on a local job, and why clearing the garage is worth real money rather than tidiness.
Whether it is one day or two. A crew loading in St. George, driving the length of the state and unloading the same day is a very long day, and hours accrue. Splitting it changes the shape of the cost.
Access at both ends. Stairs, long carries and parking, twice.
Whether the truck returns empty. Ask whether anything can be combined with another job in the same direction, since it sometimes can and it is worth asking.
How to make it cheaper
Move less, seriously. The single largest lever. Anything you are unsure about costs to load, to carry three hundred miles, and to deal with at the far end.
Pack everything yourself, completely, in advance. On a long job there is no room in the schedule for a crew waiting.
Be flexible on dates. A run that fits an existing route is cheaper than one that does not.
Consider a container for a smaller household. You load at your own pace, it is transported, and you unload at the other end. For a modest volume this is often cheaper than a crew and a truck for two days, and we load and unload containers if you want the heavy part done.
The drive itself
It is a straightforward run up the I-15, and in summer it is worth an early start. A loaded truck in July heat is harder on everything, including the crew.
Winter is the opposite consideration: the northern half of the route can have genuinely poor conditions when the south is clear, so build flexibility into a winter date.
