Piano Movers Specialists

People with a digital piano frequently ask for a piano move and are quoted accordingly, when the job is often considerably simpler. Equally, some instruments look light and are not.

Here is an honest sorting of what needs specialist handling and what does not.

Just-In-Time Moving works throughout St. George and Washington County.

Usually straightforward

Portable keyboards and stage pianos. Two people, a case if you have one, and a car. If you have the original box, use it.

Digital pianos on an X-frame or folding stand. The instrument and the stand separate, and neither is heavy.

Heavier than they look

Console digital pianos with a fixed cabinet. The furniture-style instruments with a proper cabinet and pedal board can be surprisingly substantial, and the cabinet is often particleboard with a veneer, which is exactly the material that does not survive being lifted by the wrong part.

Lift these from the base, never by the keybed or the music desk, and take the top off the stand if it separates.

Digital grand cabinets, which are bulky rather than heavy but awkward through doors.

Genuinely a specialist job

Church and home organs. The traditional ones with a full pedal board and a bench are heavy, awkward and often built to be assembled in place. Some come apart into console and pedal sections and some do not, and getting that wrong is expensive.

Hammond and other vintage tonewheel organs. These are extremely heavy, contain a mechanism that does not appreciate being tipped, and frequently have a separate speaker cabinet that is heavy in its own right.

If you have one of these, say so specifically rather than describing it as a keyboard.

The parts people damage

Stands and legs, almost always. Folding stands are not designed to be carried assembled with the instrument on them, and fixed legs on furniture-style cabinets are the weak point.

Take it apart where it is designed to come apart, bag the fittings and tape them to the instrument.

Pedal units and their cables are the other casualty. Disconnect them, and do not let a pedal board dangle by its lead.

Heat, which matters here

A digital instrument is electronics. It should not spend a July afternoon in a closed truck, and it certainly should not sit in a parked car.

Most digital pianos will go in a car with the seats down, which is the right answer in summer for anything you value.

Tell us which it is

Make and model. That tells us the weight and whether it separates, and it is the difference between a short job and being quoted for a crew you do not need.

The estimate is free and in writing.
