Plan the destination before it arrives

Decide the final position before delivery day, not after. Once a safe is standing in a garage it is not going to casually shuffle to the right room later.

Two things to settle.

The route. Measure the narrowest point of the whole path, not just the door: the turn at the end of a hallway, a doorway into a finished room, the width at a stair landing. The tightest point governs everything.

The floor. This is the one people skip. A safe concentrates a lot of weight into a very small footprint, and where it ends up matters. On a ground floor over a slab this is rarely a concern. Upstairs, or over a finished basement, the load is worth thinking about properly, and if you have any doubt the person to ask is a builder or a structural engineer rather than a moving company. We will tell you honestly when we think that call is worth making.

Tile is the other floor issue. Concentrated weight is harder on tile than most people expect, so tell us what the route surface is. Protection goes down before the safe moves at all.

Anchoring

If it is being bolted down, plan it as part of the job. Say so when you book so the right tools are on the truck rather than the conversation happening with the safe in the middle of the room.

Equally, if you are moving one that is already anchored, say that too. Removing bolts is straightforward when expected and an unwelcome surprise when not.

Relocating an existing safe

Empty it completely first. It removes real weight, it stops contents shifting inside something already top-heavy, and it means the contents are never our responsibility in transit.

Find the weight or the make and model. Manufacturer weights vary widely between models that look similar and it decides the crew and equipment.

Then photographs: where it stands, the route out, and the approach to where a truck can park. Those three tell us more than a paragraph.
