A local move is billed on the crew's time, which means the useful question is not how fast the crew works. It is how much of their time gets spent on things that are not carrying.

The four time sinks

An unfinished pack. The biggest by a wide margin. A crew arriving to a half-packed house either waits or packs, and both are billed at crew rate. Everything boxed, taped and closed before they walk in, including the kitchen, the garage and the last drawer of the desk. Beds and large furniture are ours to deal with; everything else should be in a box.

Boxes labelled with contents. A box marked "books" tells a crew nothing and gets put down in the hall for you to move later. A box marked "master bedroom" gets carried once, to the master bedroom. Label by destination. It costs nothing going out and saves real time coming in.

Undecided items. Every item nobody has decided about becomes a question, and every question is a crew standing still. Put anything genuinely unresolved in one room and tell us that room is not going.

Access nobody mentioned. A long carry from where the truck can legally sit, a gate needing unlocking, a lift needing booking, a neighbour's car in the way. None are problems if we know. All cost time if we find out on arrival.

Where the money is before the crew arrives

Decluttering, and it is not close. Anything you would not pay to transport should not be on the truck, and a garage and basement are usually a real share of the volume.

Do it weeks ahead, starting with the spaces where things accumulate without decisions being made.

Paying for part of it

If the budget is fixed, the parts worth paying for are the loading, anything heavy or awkward, and whichever end has stairs. The parts worth doing yourself are the packing, the sorting beforehand, and the small and light if the move is local.

Tell us the budget and we will say honestly where it is best spent, including when a different arrangement would suit you better.

The estimate is free, in writing, and follows questions about stairs, parking, access and heavy items. Just-In-Time Moving is licensed in Utah and carries general liability insurance, seven days a week including evenings.
