Junk removal is a volume problem rather than a difficulty problem. Any single item is something you could handle. It is that there are forty of them, several are too heavy to carry alone, and you do not own a truck, which turns one Saturday into three.

The three jobs this usually is

The garage or basement clear-out is the common one. Years of accumulation, a dead appliance or two, old furniture, boxes unopened since the last move. Almost always more volume than the owner estimated, because it has been accumulating out of sight.

The renovation clear-out is heavier and denser. Cabinets, fixtures, torn-out flooring, tile, drywall. Worth describing by material rather than by size when you ask for a quote, because a pile of tile and a pile of cabinet doors can look identical and weigh nothing like the same.

The estate or downsizing clear-out needs the most care and usually the least hurry. It is often a whole property, at a difficult time, with decisions still being made. That is fine. We would rather come back than pressure anyone into a decision they have not made yet.

What changes the quote

Not volume alone. The things that move the number most are stairs, the distance from the pile to where a truck can park, and dense material. A basement clear-out with a narrow staircase is a different job from the same volume sitting in an open garage.

So tell us where it is as well as what it is. Behind a gate, up two flights, at the back of a property with no vehicle access: all of that matters. Photographs are usually enough for a straightforward load, and they get you a more accurate number than any description.

There are some things we cannot take, hazardous material chiefly among them. Ask before the day rather than on it, so that if something needs a different disposal route you have time to arrange it instead of being left with it after the truck has gone.

Two things are worth doing before the crew arrives. Separate anything you are keeping and put it somewhere else entirely, ideally a different room, because the most expensive mistake on a clear-out is something going that should have stayed. A pile that is entirely going is faster to load and impossible to get wrong.

Then think about where the truck can sit. On the narrower central streets, and anywhere with permit parking or a tight alley, that is a real question rather than a formality, and it decides how far every item has to be carried. If you already know parking is difficult on your street, say so when you call and we will plan around it rather than circling the block.
