Moving a business without closing it

The goal is that your people leave one office on a Friday and start work in another one on a Monday. Getting there is a sequencing exercise. Workstations come apart in an order and go back together in the reverse of it. Things that have to be working first, like the space where people actually sit and take calls, get set up first, not whenever they happen to come off the truck.

It helps enormously if somebody on your side owns the floor plan. Not a formal drawing, necessarily, just a clear decision about what goes where before the day, so the crew is placing things rather than asking. Labeling is worth the hour it takes. A box marked only "office" in a building with fourteen offices is a box that gets opened four times.

St. George has a real spread of commercial space, from medical and professional suites through retail to light industrial, and they move very differently. A clinic has equipment and records that need care and sequencing. A retail unit has fixtures and stock and a hard deadline attached to a lease. Licensed, insured, and what that actually means for you

Being licensed in Utah and carrying general liability insurance is the baseline for anyone you let into your building, and it is worth checking rather than assuming. Many commercial landlords and property managers will ask for a certificate of insurance before they will let a moving crew into a shared building, particularly where there are common corridors, an elevator, or a loading dock in use by other tenants.

Ask us for it early rather than the day before. Building management can be slow to process paperwork, and a certificate that has not cleared is a genuinely common reason a move date slips. It is a five minute conversation weeks out and a serious problem the night before.

We will also want to know about elevator reservations, dock access, after-hours building access and who has the keys or codes. None of it is complicated, but all of it is the sort of thing that stops a move dead at eight o'clock on a Saturday evening if nobody asked.
