Moving in Stages When You Are Only Going a Few Miles
A short move does not have to happen on one day, and treating it as a process rather than an event changes everything.
Get a Free Quote Call (435) 862-3080Moving is planned as a single day because that is how long-distance moves work. On a move of a few miles, that is a habit rather than a requirement, and it is frequently the wrong shape.
Just-In-Time Moving works throughout Washington and Washington County.
Get an overlap, and use it properly
Everything below depends on holding both properties for a few days. Ask for it: negotiate a few days into a purchase, ask a landlord for a short overlap, or plan the closing dates with a gap.
The rent or carrying cost for a few days is almost always less than what a compressed single-day move costs in money and disruption.
The order that works
First, everything you will not need. Garage contents, seasonal items, decorations, books, spare furniture, anything in a shed. This is frequently half the volume and none of it affects daily life.
Move it by car over a week of evenings, or in one short crew booking.
Then set up the new house. Utilities on, cooling running, cleaning done, shelves in, window coverings up if they are needed. Doing this in an empty house takes a fraction of the time it takes around furniture.
Then the working core in one day. Beds, sofas, appliances, the kitchen, clothes. A crew for a short window handles the heavy part.
Then clear the old house at your own pace, clean it properly while it is empty, and hand it over.
Why this is cheaper
The crew booking covers only the part that genuinely needs a crew, which is the furniture and appliances. Everything else moves at no cost but your time.
And nobody is paid to wait, which on a compressed single day is where money disappears.

Why it is easier
You sleep in a made bed on the night of the move rather than among boxes. The kitchen works. Nothing has to be decided while somebody holds it.
If something is forgotten, it is a ten-minute drive rather than a problem.
Where it does not suit
If you have no overlap, if you are moving with small children and need it over quickly, or if the volume is small enough that one day is trivial anyway.
It also asks more of you across a fortnight rather than concentrating it, which some people would rather not.
How we fit in
Short hourly bookings, more than one if you want, on the days that suit the plan. Tell us the shape and we will quote the parts you actually need.
