Old Computers, Televisions and Electronic Waste
Two separate problems: getting rid of the hardware, and making sure what was on it does not leave with it.

Electronics accumulate in every household and they are the category people are most reluctant to deal with, usually because of the data rather than the disposal.
Both parts are manageable, and the data part is yours rather than a hauler's.
Just-In-Time Moving works throughout Washington and Washington County. We are licensed in Utah and carry general liability insurance.
Deal with the data first, before anything leaves
This is the important half and it is not something to delegate on trust.
Deleting files and emptying a recycle bin does not remove data. Nor does a quick format. Anybody with ordinary recovery software can retrieve it.
For a computer, either use the manufacturer's secure erase or reset function, use disk-wiping software, or physically remove the drive and keep or destroy it. Removing the drive is the most certain and the least technical.
Phones and tablets: sign out of accounts first, then factory reset. Signing out matters, because a device still linked to an account can be a problem for the next owner and for you.
Printers, copiers and some televisions store data too, which surprises people. Business copiers in particular hold images of everything scanned.
External drives and old phones in a drawer are the ones people forget entirely.
If the data is sensitive or you are not confident, use a service that provides a certificate of destruction.
Then the disposal
Electronics are not general waste. They contain materials that should be recovered and some that should not go to landfill, and many facilities will not accept them mixed.
Washington County has collection arrangements for electronic waste, and manufacturers and retailers frequently run take-back programmes, some free.
Televisions and monitors are the awkward ones, particularly older heavy sets, and are frequently charged separately.
Batteries specifically
Remove them from everything. Lithium batteries in general waste are a genuine fire risk in collection vehicles and at facilities, and swollen batteries should be handled carefully rather than crushed.
Take them to a proper collection point.

What we do
We haul electronics separately rather than in a general load, and take them to appropriate collection. We do not wipe drives or handle your data, so do that before we arrive.
