The move itself
The mechanics are the same as anywhere. An upright carries its mass high and toward the back, which is what makes it want to tip on a threshold or a stair nosing, so it goes on proper equipment and gets strapped rather than carried. A grand loses its legs and pedal lyre, goes onto a piano board on its side, and is wrapped and strapped there.
What changes here is transit temperature. A closed truck in summer gets very hot, and while a short local move is not a problem, an instrument does not benefit from sitting in it. That is an argument for an early start and for the piano not being loaded first and unloaded last.
Dry air, and what to do about it
Very low humidity is hard on a piano over time. Wood shrinks as it dries, and in an instrument that means tuning drifts, and over years it can mean more than that.
You cannot change the climate, and there are two things within your control.
Where it goes. An interior wall, away from heating and cooling vents, and out of direct sun through a window. Vents are the worst offender because they deliver repeated cycles of dry moving air directly at the instrument. Direct sun is the second. Choosing the position deliberately at the point of the move is much easier than moving it again later.
Whether to manage the humidity. Room humidifiers and systems fitted inside a piano both exist, and whether either is worth it depends on the instrument and how much you care about it. That is a conversation for a piano technician rather than a moving company, and it is worth having if the instrument is good.
Afterwards
Have it tuned after it settles rather than the same day. Both the move and the change of room affect tuning, on every piano moved by anyone. Let it acclimatise to the new space first.
