Seven days out

The day before
Clear and treat both routes. Driveway, path, steps, threshold and where the truck will park. Do it early enough that the salt has worked, and plan to re-treat during the day as it refreezes.
Finish packing completely. Paid time spent waiting in the cold is the most expensive kind.
Put mats or old towels inside every door at both ends.
Check the truck can actually reach the house, particularly on a rural or sloped approach.
On the day
Heat on at both ends, and keep it on despite the open doors. Something hot for the crew, which is the winter equivalent of cold water in July.
Expect it to take a little longer than the same job in June, and do not let anybody rush on steps.
At the far end: beds built, one bathroom, a working kitchen, and the heat up. Then stop.
