A good deal of Iron County is rural, and moves to and from properties on acreage are a regular part of our work. They are usually straightforward and they need different information at the quoting stage than a house in town.
Just-In-Time Moving is locally owned and works throughout Cedar City, Enoch, Parowan and the surrounding county.
The access questions
These decide the job, more than the size of the house.
How long is the drive, and what is its surface? A quarter mile of gravel is fine dry and quite different after rain or snow.
Can a full-size truck turn round? Reversing a loaded truck a long way down a narrow drive is slow and sometimes not possible, and a turning space is worth confirming.
Is there a slope? A loaded truck on a steep unpaved approach in winter is the situation we most want to know about in advance.
Gates, cattle guards, low branches and overhead lines. All ordinary, all worth mentioning.
How far is the door from where a truck can stop? This is the number that drives the hours. A long carry costs more than a flight of stairs.
If a large truck genuinely cannot reach the house, the answer is usually a shuttle with a smaller vehicle. That is a normal solution and it needs planning rather than improvising.
What rural properties contain
More than a town house, and heavier. Workshops, tools, equipment, feed, fencing materials, tack, generators and a garage that has been accumulating for years.
Show us all of it when quoting. Outbuildings are the single most common omission and can double a job.
Fuel, propane, chemicals and treatment products do not travel and need dealing with separately.
Animals
We do not transport livestock or animals, and that needs arranging separately.
What matters to us is practical: dogs secured, gates managed, and somewhere for animals to be that is not the route we are working. On a working property an open gate is a serious matter and we would rather be told what is where.

Utilities and the far end
Confirm power and heat are on before the truck arrives, since rural connections sometimes take longer to arrange than in town. If the property is on a well or a propane tank, check those are working and filled.
Winter
Rural access is the first thing to fail in snow. Have the drive cleared and be realistic with us about conditions, and expect that a genuinely bad day may need rescheduling.
