There is a division of labour on a winter move that nobody states, and it causes trouble when it is left unstated. The crew brings equipment, protection and technique. The property owner provides a route that can be walked safely.
Getting that second part right before the day is the highest-value hour you will spend.
Just-In-Time Moving works throughout Cedar City and Iron County.
What needs clearing
Not just the driveway. Work along the actual path a person carrying a sofa will take.
Where the truck will park, and enough space beside it for people to work and set things down.
The full path from that spot to the door, at its working width rather than a single-file track.
Steps, and the landing at the top, which is where ice concentrates and where a fall is worst.
The threshold itself, which collects compacted ice and is easy to overlook.
Under any overhang that drips and refreezes, which is the classic hidden patch.
Then do the same at the destination.
Treat it, early enough to work
Salt and grit take time. Applying them as the truck pulls up achieves very little.
Treat the night before if you can, then again first thing. And plan to re-treat during the day, because a cleared path refreezes as the light goes and the last hour of a move is when everybody is tired and carrying the awkward items.
Keep the bag by the door rather than in a shed you have locked.
Inside the house
Everything coming in will be wet, and salt is worse for floors than water.
Mats or old towels inside every door at both ends. Clear a space near the entrance where the crew can set things down without tracking further in.
If any flooring is new, say so when you book so we bring the right protection.

The rural version
Around the county the question is often whether a truck can reach the house at all. A long unpaved drive, a slope, a cattle guard or a gate all matter.
Have the drive cleared, gates open, and tell us honestly what the approach is like. A crew that has to shuttle a load by hand from a road two hundred yards away is a very different job, and we would rather plan it than discover it.
What we will do
Work at a deliberate pace, position the truck for footing rather than the shortest carry, and say so plainly if conditions are not safe to proceed.
