A summer move in St. George is a physically demanding day for everybody involved. The preparation that matters is not the packing, which everybody thinks about, but a short list of things that only apply in heat.
Just-In-Time Moving works throughout St. George and Washington County.
Seven days out
Confirm the utilities at the new house are transferred to start the day before you move, not the day of. Cooling running in an empty house for twenty-four hours makes the unload a different experience.
Confirm your start time and make it as early as the crew can manage.
Arrange somewhere for pets to be for the day. Heat, open doors and strangers are a poor combination, and a hot vehicle is never an option, even briefly.
Arrange childcare for the same reasons.
Three days out
Empty and defrost the fridge and freezer. It needs a full day, and in summer the contents will not survive a move regardless, so plan meals down rather than trying to save it.
Sort the heat-sensitive box. Candles, records, electronics, medication, artwork, cosmetics and anything with a storage temperature. These go in your own air-conditioned vehicle rather than the truck.
Water the plants well and decide which are travelling. Plants in a hot truck do not do well, and most will be better in the car.
The day before
Finish packing completely. Everything sealed, labelled and stacked near the door. Paid time spent waiting in heat is the most expensive kind.
Fill a cooler with cold water and put it where the crew will be working. Do the same at the destination.
Clear both routes, prop the doors, and work out where the truck parks so it is in shade if there is any.

On the day
Wear proper shoes and light clothing, and take the breaks you need rather than pushing through. Heat exhaustion comes on faster than people expect and it usually arrives during the last hour, when everybody is tired and wants to finish.
Keep the cooling on at both ends, doors closed where you can, and do not leave anything in a parked car.
At the far end: beds built and made, one bathroom, and a working kitchen minimum. Then stop.
