Most moving damage is mechanical: something dropped, crushed or scraped. In a desert summer there is a second category that people do not anticipate, and it does not announce itself until you unpack.

The temperature problem
An enclosed truck standing in the sun gets considerably hotter than the ambient air. On a day well above a hundred degrees, the interior can reach a level at which a number of ordinary household items begin to fail.
This is not a reason for alarm about most of a household. Furniture, clothing, kitchenware and books are fine. A specific and predictable list is not.
What genuinely suffers
Candles and wax anything. They melt, and they ruin whatever they were packed with.
Vinyl records. They warp, permanently, and it takes less heat than people expect.
Electronics. Laptops, televisions and game consoles do not like extended heat, and batteries in particular degrade and can swell.
Anything pressurised or aerosol. These should not be on a moving truck in any weather, and heat is an additional reason.
Artwork, photographs and musical instruments. Adhesives soften, canvas and paper react, and wooden instruments respond badly to both heat and the dryness here.
Medication, cosmetics and anything with a storage temperature on the label.
Some cleaning products and liquids, which expand and leak.
What to do about it
The short answer: those things travel in your own vehicle, with the air conditioning on, not on the truck. It is a small box or two, and it removes the problem entirely.
Beyond that, an early start means less time in the heat, and loading last what will be unloaded first shortens the exposure for anything sensitive that must go on the truck.
Do not let a loaded truck stand in the sun longer than it must, and do not leave anything overnight in a vehicle in summer.
On a longer move
If your goods will be in transit or stored for days, ask specifically about that. The list above matters far more over a week than over an afternoon, and it is a reasonable question to put to any mover.
