Tell us the date is provisional

An overlap, where you have both properties for a period. This is the easier problem and the one people fail to use. If you have a week with access to both, you have the option of a staged move: the awkward things first, the ordinary things next, and time to deal with anything that does not fit. It removes most of the pressure from a move and it costs less than it saves in stress.

Staging and showings

If the house is still being shown, that shapes what can be packed and when. Boxes stacked in every room do not help a viewing.

The workable approach is to pack the things that do not affect how a house presents, which is most of the garage, the basement, the storage areas, off-season clothing and anything decorative that is genuinely personal. Leave the rooms that people walk through looking like rooms.

If things are going into storage as part of staging, that is effectively a first move, and it is worth planning as one rather than as an afternoon.
