On a long move there is usually a vehicle that cannot simply be driven: a second car, a classic, one that is not roadworthy for a long trip, or one belonging to somebody flying.
Vehicle transport is a separate trade from household moving, and it is worth understanding before assuming your mover handles it.

Driving it yourself is often still cheapest
Worth doing the arithmetic honestly rather than assuming transport is simpler.
Add fuel, a night or two of accommodation, meals, and the wear on the vehicle. Against a transport quote, driving frequently wins on a moderate distance, especially with two drivers taking two cars.
Where it loses is on a very long haul, on an unroadworthy or valuable vehicle, when nobody has the days, or in winter when the route crosses high ground.
Open or enclosed
The main choice in vehicle transport.
Open is the standard, on the same kind of trailer that delivers new cars. Cheaper and widely available. Your vehicle is exposed to weather and road debris, which for an ordinary car is acceptable.
Enclosed costs substantially more and protects from weather and debris. Worth it for a classic, a low vehicle, or anything where paint condition matters.
What to check on a transporter
The same discipline as with a mover. Whether they are a carrier or a broker arranging a carrier, and the name of who will actually collect. Their federal registration, which you can look up. Their insurance and what it covers, in writing, including the deductible.
Get the pickup and delivery windows in writing, and understand that both are ranges rather than appointments.
Before it goes
Wash it, so the condition report means something, then photograph every panel, the wheels, the roof and the interior, dated.
Remove personal belongings. Transporters generally will not carry them and they are not covered.
Leave roughly a quarter tank, disable a toll transponder, remove loose exterior fittings, and note any existing damage on the condition report at collection.
At delivery, inspect properly before signing, in daylight if you possibly can, and note anything on the paperwork at that moment rather than afterwards.
