Moving into a short let

If part of your belongings is going into storage

Put a date on it. Storage against a known end is a bridge; storage without one becomes a subscription for things you never look at.

Pack for storage differently from packing for a house. Do not seal upholstery or fabric airtight, because a unit swings through real temperature changes and trapped moisture ruins soft furnishings. Keep everything off the concrete. Leave an aisle down the middle, which almost nobody does and almost everybody regrets. Label boxes on the side facing the aisle, since once stacked that is the only face you can read.

The building side

Ask three things before you book: whether moves need booking into a slot or are restricted to certain hours, where a truck can actually sit and how far that is from the door, and whether they want a certificate of insurance, which we can provide and which takes longer to process on their side than people expect.

Photograph the apartment when you move in, including any existing marks, and keep those where you will still have them at the end of the lease. On a short tenancy the move in and move out are close enough together that documentation genuinely matters.
