Not every piano move involves a truck. Plenty of the calls we take are people who want the piano in a different room, out of a basement, or shifted so a floor can be refinished.
It is the least expensive piano work available, because there is no vehicle, no distance and no ramp. It is not, however, a job that becomes safe simply because the distance is short.

Why short distance is not the same as easy
An upright piano weighs somewhere between three hundred and eight hundred pounds and carries almost all of that high and toward the back. It is top-heavy, which is why pianos tip, and tipping is what injures people and destroys instruments.
The weight does not change because the destination is twenty feet away. Neither does the doorway, the turn, or the staircase.
The genuine risk on an in-house move is that people attempt it casually. A piano being walked across a room by four family members is the most common way both pianos and backs get damaged.
What it costs
Considerably less than a transport job. You are paying for a crew and equipment for a short window rather than a truck and a route.
What still drives it: the weight and type of instrument, whether stairs are involved, and how tight the route is. A grand piano being moved between rooms still needs the legs and lyre removed and a piano board, which takes as long as it takes regardless of distance.
Floors and casters
Piano casters are for appearance rather than travel. Rolling a piano on its own casters across hardwood will mark the floor along the entire path and can snap a caster, which drops a corner of the instrument.
On carpet the resistance is worse and the tipping risk higher.
A piano is lifted onto proper equipment and moved on that, not pushed.
What to expect afterwards
The instrument should be tuned once it has settled in its new position, usually after a few weeks. That is normal and is not a sign anything went wrong; pianos respond to position, temperature and humidity.
