Describe the material, not the pile

The most useful thing you can tell us is what things are made of. Two piles of identical size can differ enormously in weight, and with construction material the difference is not subtle.

Plaster and lath from an older house is far heavier than modern drywall. Tile, mortar and concrete are dense. Old cast iron fittings and radiators are extremely heavy for their size. Cabinets and trim are bulky and light by comparison.

So when you send photographs, say what the material is. It produces a more accurate quote and it means the right vehicle and crew arrive.

Stage the work

Renovation debris accumulates over weeks, and there are two approaches.

Haul as you go, which keeps the site workable and safe and means several smaller visits. Usually the better choice for anything running more than a couple of weeks, particularly if you are living in the house.

Or accumulate and clear once, which is more efficient per trip and requires somewhere to put it that does not block access or become a hazard.

Talk to us about which suits your project. If several visits are likely, say so at the start, because it is easier to plan than to arrange repeatedly at short notice.

What we cannot take

This matters more with renovation than with any other kind of clear-out, because older houses contain materials that need specialist handling and disposal.

Hazardous material generally, including paint, solvents, chemicals and fuel, needs a different route. Beyond that, if you are working on an older property and there is any question about the materials being removed, that assessment belongs with a qualified professional before the work happens, not with a hauling crew afterwards. Access

Where a truck can park relative to the debris, and whether it comes down stairs, affects the figure more than volume does. Older properties often have short driveways or street parking only.
